EdCo is rolling out its Wednesday Spotlight where every other Wednesday we get to know one of one of our teams, beginning with Team EMC2!
EMC2 is a First Tech Challenge team (FTC) from Springboro High School in Springboro, Ohio. See what they’re made of in this great clip:
EMC2 has topped our trending team charts by raising over $1250! Recently they started a Giving Tuesday project, their #MoreThanRobots campaign. Proceeds help support two local children’s charities. Help support #MoreThanRobots here: https://springboro.ed.co/emc2
We caught up with the team and threw out 6 quick questions. Keep reading to learn how EdCo has helped them, what their biggest accomplishments are, and who Quackers the Righteous Duck is.
EdCo: Let’s learn some EMC2 history- when was your team created?
EMC2: Our team started in 2012, the “Ring it Up” season of FIRST Tech Challenge.
EdCo: How many members are on your team?
EMC2: We have 10 team members, 4 mentors, and many sponsors and well-wishers that help make our team successful.
EdCo: What are your biggest accomplishments?
EMC2: We’ve gotten better every year with our robot, we won the Think Award at our qualifying tournament last year and were Finalists at the Ohio State Championship. We also hosted a kick-off and Build a Better Bot workshop this year with our friends Cougar Robotics and Patronum Bots.
EdCo: What’s your favorite part about EdCo?
EMC2: We like EdCo because it shows how getting people involved even a little can snowball and help out a lot. We also like it because we’re learning newer techniques for entrepreneurship, like using crowdfunding and social media to sell yourself and your ideas.
EdCo: What is your favorite part of FIRST Robotics?
EMC2: We like how it’s a big community, how you can almost be instant friends with other teams just because they’re a FIRST team. We also like doing things hands-on, building things, solving problems.
EdCo: Alright! Last but not least- what is a crazy fact about your team?
EMC2: Our team mascot is Quackers the Righteous Duck. It’s a long story, but we even built a robot duck that we use for outreach. People used to ask us “He looks like a duck and walks like a duck, does he quack like one?” so we programmed him to quack like one too. Kids and adults all like him, and we let people drive him around and pass out candy.
