FIRST Robotics held kick off for the 2019 season this past Saturday, January 5. Kickoff marks the beginning of the design and build season for FIRST teams everywhere. Teams have the opportunity to meet at “local” Kickoffs to compare notes, get ideas, and make friends. They will also find mentoring teams and learn the game. Teams will pick up the Kickoff Kit from the Kit of Parts and get geared up for the exciting competition season.
This year’s competition consists of high school students building a robot around a specific challenge and this year the challenge’s theme is Destination: Deep Space. Competitions start at the end of February and run through mid-April followed by Championships in Houston, TX and Detroit, MI.
For 30 years, FIRST® has inspired millions of young people to reach for the stars. Project-based, hands-on FIRST programs introduce students to coding, programming, and engineering in an environment where students work collaboratively to solve a yearly robotics challenge.
